The word is out that a Pink Diamond mined by De Beers in 1999 initially weighing 132.5-carats in its rough form has been fashioned into an oval and now weighs 59.6-carats.
What’s interesting about this large eye ball sized diamond is its colour, clarity and size that together have demanded a record breaking asking price.
The oval wonder – ‘The Pink Star‘ is a Fancy Vivid Pink, Internally Flawless and weighs 59.60-carats. Unlike any gem you’ve probably set eyes on, this natural treasure was to be auctioned by Sotheby’s in Geneva in November 2013 for an asking price of $60million which will be $13.8million higher than the ‘Graff Pink‘ which set a world record in 2010.
In 2017, the famous Pink Star finally sold for an amount well above its asking price by Sotheby’s for $71.2 Million by the renowned jeweller Choi Tai Fook. A gem that catches the light with utmost delicacy and then radiates it with a vivid pink, this gemstone is truly a work of art by mother nature.
